Art Unraveled Shopping Extravaganza

Handmade art tiles and handmade buttons along with great hangies were to be my offerings during the Shopping Extravaganza. Then I got a little carried away.  Now I have a big box of nails, screws, nuts, bolts, washers, pins etc so heavy I can’t move it!  There is a flying goddess, lots of round rusted lids, parts, rusty tools, saw blades, vintage road maps, old printers number and letter sets, three Smith Corona Typewriters, a big pile of crocheted table runners, doilies and clothes,  fuses, match books, a full set of World Book Encyclopedias, Boy and Girl Scout vintage  Handbooks,  sheet music and music books, ...

Posted by on Feb 15, 2012 in Commissions, Kroc Community Center Phoenix South Mountain | Comments Off on Tile Making with Children from Phoenix South Mountain

The new Salvation Army Kroc Community Center Phoenix South Mountain has been under construction for almost two years.  The grand opening is May 18, 2012.     Yikes!  We still have lots of work to do on the mosaic for the new building. I have been working with the children and families to make tiles for a HUGE mosaic of six – two foot by ten foot panels.  We started by making the tiles with the children from Rose Linda School in the “Old” Salvation Army South Mountain Community Center. With the severe cuts in arts and programs in the schools none of these children have ever worked or played with clay or made anything with clay.  So in addition...
